Creating with the goal of empowering, encouraging, and elevating our community.

Welcome to the creative realm of Mathew Bell, a Perth-based artist dedicated to empowering, encouraging, and elevating our community through art.

For over 7 years, I’ve passionately fulfilled my role as a Perth Artist by tackling contemporary challenges head-on.

Through my unique art platform and perspective, I confront issues like loneliness, drug abuse, and self-destructive patterns, aiming to spark meaningful conversations and inspire positive change.

within the vibrant sun of Perth’s artistic landscape, contemporary art often remains overlooked. Yet, much like our city’s mental health, it holds layers of history, complexities, and untold stories waiting to be explored.

My art serves as a beacon, inviting you to delve deep, reflect, and emerge with newfound insights and knowledge.

Amidst life’s darkest moments, I believe in the power of adaptation, exploration, and finding light. Encouragement is key on this journey of self-discovery and healing.

“Notice” Mathew Bell, Perth Artist, 2018, Archival Ink and Guoache on Archival paper, Framed 47 x 64 x 3 cm. Sold

Take, for instance, “Notice,” a pivotal creation from 2018. Executed with archival ink and gouache on archival paper, this framed masterpiece measures 47 x 64 x 3 cm. Sold to an appreciative collector, it embodies my personal triumph over the shadows of drunkenness, loneliness, and suicidal thoughts. Through art, I discovered self-love and the importance of prioritizing my well-being, igniting a passion to embrace life’s opportunities fully.

“This piece was inspired by drunken, lonely suicidal thoughts. I was able to find these thoughts and handle them. I love myself and should take better care of my health. I have a huge career ahead of me and I want to stay alive to enjoy it.”

The Stages of Change

An important theory I have been studying, attempting to simplify, and share.

The Stages of Change model, pioneered by Prochaska and DiClemente, outlines how individuals progress through stages like Precontemplation, Contemplation, Preparation, Action, and Maintenance when making behavioural changes.

Originally focused on addiction, it’s now widely used in psychology, health promotion, and organizational development. It highlights the cyclical nature of change and helps tailor interventions based on readiness, making it a powerful tool for fostering lasting transformations in contemporary society.

Chanel’s iconic Camellia, beloved by Gabrielle “Coco” Chanel herself, symbolizes resilience and elegance. This timeless motif represents inner strength and grace amidst adversity. Like the flower’s ability to bloom despite challenges, individuals find inspiration in love, solace in loss, and courage in bravery.
