Carla Adams is a Perth contemporary artist who is currently working on her Honours project at Curtin University. Alongside her arts practice she is the curator of the Hard Work Club: an online space that showcases early career visual artists, designers and writers. Carla's work focuses primarily on modern courtship and how human interaction has been warped with the introduction of digital technologies & networking (including Instagram, Omegle and Chat Roulette). Using a range of crude sculpture materials that are often regarded as "low-brow" or "crafty", Carla's work reflects the naivety of the online space and its users. Her work straddles an obscure; playfully unique aesthetic: A satirical poke at the world that both inspires it and encapsulates its existence. Carla's work can be seen ...

https://www.expedia.com/Perth.d180013.Destination-Travel-Guides A modern city, Perth is the gem of Australia’s west coast and the capital of Western Australia. This friendly metropolis boasts pristine beaches, clear water, and plenty of coastline – not to mention an abundance of nature and mineral resources. Start your day of Perth sightseeing with a walk through Kings Park, which is larger than New York’s Central Park and home to the Western Australia Botanic Garden. More than 3,000 species of Western Australia’s plant life, including vibrant flowers, are on display here. Most of the park consists of bushland, which means lots of wildlife and quite a few walking trails. After a morning of reflection in the park, head over to the Swan Bell Tower to enjoy a spectacular view of the city. ...

Had the chance to fly to Perth for work but it felt like I was on a holiday every single day! It was my first time to travel outside Asia. It was overwhelming at first (felt like I was the only Asian LOL) but I had the best time ever. Couldn't be more grateful to my boss for this opportunity :D Hopefully, a couple of years from now.. I could move to Perth and settle down there for good. Ahh, beach everyday! *fingers crossed*

Perth is a must visit if you're thinking of a trip over to Western Australia, the beautiful coastline and Perth attractions make it the ideal place to take family, friends or your partner. The city is easy to navigate, with everything fairly close, Hay and Murray Street is home to big name shops, cinemas and the GPO. Kings Park and Botanic Gardens are a beautiful place for a stroll and offers some great views of the city. The Botanic Gardens features over 3,000 species and the Rio Tinto Naturescape is great for the kids. The coastline is one of Perth's draws, and if the heat is getting to you head for a dip at the golden sands on Cottesloe Beach, City Beach or Scarborough. Fremantle is located at the mouth of the Swan River, boasting historical buildings, the Roundhouse and the Maritime Mu...

The Margaret River region runs down the Western Australian coastline for over 80 miles, and stretches inland for a further 20. Busselton marks the beginning of one of Australia’s most scenic drives, Caves Road, which gets its name from the incredible limestone caves which honeycomb the region. Caves Road winds inland, through picturesque villages and historic timber towns, before arriving at the region’s main settlement, Margaret River. Surrounded by coasts on three sides, and enjoying virtually rain-free summers, as a wine-growing region, Margaret River has been compared to France’s famous Bordeaux region. Cruise from cellar door to cellar door, sampling some of the most exciting Chardonnays, Shirazs and Cabernet Sauvignons on the planet. At Margaret River’s northern end is Cape Natur...
The best things in life are (almost!) free, and that is certainly the case if you head to Perth in Western Australia. As this video shows, you don't need a bulging wallet to enjoy what the city has to offer, for example: City Walking Tours and Trails Walking tours of the city and the City Walks and Trails maps are the best way to explore the Perth CBD and surrounding areas. i-City volunteers guide free walking tours each week day, departing from the i-City Information Kiosk in Murray Street Mall near Forrest Place. The tours take up to 2 hours, and you can join in or leave anywhere along the way. You can also do the walking tours yourself by picking up the walking tour map and comprehensive guide from the i-City kiosk. The walks and trails intercept the city's free CAT bus servic...

What is an artist based in the Blue Mountains, a couple of hours west of Sydney, Australia. I first met What when we both worked at Campbelltown Arts Centre in 2001. I wrote the catalogue essay for What's Mothertrucker exhibition at Campbelltown in the same year, and we did a gallery talk at the National Art School Gallery in 2009. I regard What as one of Australia's most underrated contemporary artists, as well as one of the most varied and interesting artists I know. In this interview, What talks about his beginnings at the National Art School, and a number of his key exhibitions since. I hadn't seen what for eight years before this interview, so it was great to catch up with him and talk about his career, which now spans two decades. Assoc Prof Kit Messham-Muir Curtin Univer...

- www.austenmengler.com - Check out a recent live demo I performed back in June at Supanova Perth this year. I went through concept art, creature and character design and how I generate ideas in Photoshop. It's fun to share more of my process this way and go into more detail, as usually I don't get to when exhibiting in the Artist's Alley at these kind of cons. Was a blast as usual though, as I also took suggesstions from the audience and answered a lot of questions about my process and experiences being an independant artist. In the demo I wanted to show how creating a range of loose concepts at the start of a drawing is an important part of getting the best idea you can for the final, and can save you a lot of time in the end. Also special thanks to my friends for helping out and recor...

Nigel Milsom is one of Australia's most extraordinary artists. He was won both of Australia's high-profile portraiture prizes, the Doug Moran (2014) and the Archibald Prize (2015). His Archibald-winning painting, titled 'Judo House Pt. 6 (The White Bird)', was a portrait of barrister Charles Waterstreet, a family friend and, for Milsom, something of a saviour. In this four-part interview, Milsom takes us from his beginnings in Sydney and Newcastle, through the highlights and ruptures in his career, to where he is today, a successful and nationally-recognised practicing artist based now in Newcastle, Australia. Special thanks must go to Nigel, who is without a doubt one of the most fascinating artists I've interviewed, and it was just great to spend a couple of hours talking and rec...

This is the second part of a two-part interview with New York-based artist, Dove Bradshaw. I very first interviewed Dove in 2012, right at the beginning of the StudioCrasher project, and I've interviewed her several times since. In 2015, I spent a few days with Dove in her studio while she created one of her 'Contingency' paintings. The process involved coating a canvas in silver, randomly throwing on its surface wooden sticks, and tracing their placement with a chemical that would mark the silver. In this interview, Dove talks about the work, now two-and-a-half years lat...
